Thoughtful Work on Mechanical Timepieces

18 years of focused attention to watch repair and conservation in Kuala Lumpur

Our Story

Cindertick began in 2007 when a watchmaker's workbench was set up in a modest shop along Jalan Stesen Sentral. The aim was straightforward: provide competent mechanical watch repair in Kuala Lumpur for people whose timepieces needed attention.

Over the following years, the work deepened. What started as routine servicing expanded into conservation projects for historically significant pieces. Clients began bringing pocket watches inherited from grandparents, early wristwatches with sentimental value, and complicated movements that required patient understanding.

The workshop grew not in size but in capability. Tools accumulated — timing machines, staking sets, lathes for making replacement parts when originals couldn't be sourced. Reference materials filled shelves: technical manuals, parts catalogues, books on horology from different eras and traditions.

Today, Cindertick remains a small operation focused on mechanical movements. We work on watches that others sometimes find too time-consuming or too delicate. Each timepiece receives unhurried attention, proper documentation, and repairs that respect both function and history.

What Guides Our Work

Respect for Craftsmanship

Each watch represents someone's effort to create a mechanical solution to timekeeping. Whether it's a pocket watch from the 1920s or a contemporary wristwatch, that craftsmanship deserves respectful treatment. We handle every timepiece as though it belongs to someone we care about.

Honest Assessment

Some watches reach a point where repair doesn't make practical sense — parts are unavailable, damage is too severe, or costs exceed reasonable value. We assess situations honestly rather than proceeding with work that won't serve you well. When we can help, we explain clearly what's needed and why.

Minimal Intervention

Particularly with older timepieces, we favour conservation over restoration. This means cleaning without polishing away patina, stabilizing without replacing original components unnecessarily, and documenting rather than erasing signs of age. The watch's history remains visible and intact.

Continuous Learning

Watchmaking knowledge accumulates through experience, reference materials, and conversations with other professionals. We maintain technical libraries, attend workshops when available, and consult with specialists when encountering unfamiliar complications. Each challenging repair teaches something useful for future work.
